Job Description

We are an independent 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that provides year-round recreational, educational, and social programming to children, adults, and veterans with adaptive needs. Snowbird is a key supporter of WAS and houses one of the organization's offices at the resort. We provide programming at Snowbird as well as at various other locations along the Wasatch Front. 

Under the direction of Program Director of Adaptive Sports.
Teach adaptive and alpine skiing, snowboarding, and snowshoeing in winter months to children, adults and veterans with adaptive needs. Potential for year-round employment, which includes teaching biking, kayaking, paddle boarding, and related activities in summer months to children, adults and veterans with adaptive needs.

Position Functions / Areas of Responsibility
1. Teach program lessons according to our teaching progressions.
2. Learn to adapt all equipment to varying abilities through trainings and lessons.
3. Develop a strong teaching progression by attending PSIA (winter) and in-house clinics (winter/summer) on a year-round basis.
4. Establish a strong pre-lesson and on-hill assessment.
5. Track and evaluate student goals and progressions.

Interactions
1. Direct and continuous contact with guests.
2. Direct and continuous contact with co-workers, management, and other departments.
3. Must have the ability to interact at any time with guests and other employees in a pleasant manner and maintain good working relationships with others and all departments at Snowbird.

Education & Experience Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent required.
  • Associates degree in related field. Additional related work experience may be substituted for education.
  • 1-2 years of job-specific work experience with demonstrated competence.


Specific Requirements:

  • Must be at least 21 years of age.
  • Must be able to ski and have the ability to pass a physical capacity exam.


Skills & Knowledge
Technical:
1 year experience teaching skiing and/or snowboarding, preferably to people with adaptive needs.
PSIA certification in related discipline preferred.

Administrative:
Word, Adobe Document Cloud, Excel

Working Conditions

Work Schedule:

  • Specific Shift: Tuesday through Saturday.


Mental:

  • Must be prepared to stay overnight if necessary on occasional times of road closures.
  • May experience unusual stress from continual work with public, winter conditions, snow night requirements and commuting to/from

Physical:

  • Must be able to lift 60+ lbs.
  • Must be able to stand for long periods of time.
  • Must demonstrate ability to bend, kneel, handle, reach, grasp and perform repetitive motions.
  • Work is outdoors and requires constant exposure to cold and other extreme weather conditions.
  • Other/Additional: Must submit to background check.
