Position Summary

Rowe Sanctuary lies right in the heart of a critical spring staging area for migrating Sandhill Cranes.  Located along the Platte River in southcentral Nebraska, the 1,447-acre sanctuary contains 2.5 miles of river channel, wet meadows, and some agricultural fields. Public hiking trails wind through riparian areas and along the banks of the Platte.

The Center Manager will be responsible for the planning, operating, and managing of the day-to-day operations of the Center. S/he/they will be responsible for oversight of the facilities, trails, and grounds including management of volunteers and contractors and visitor engagement. The Center Manager will oversee the Center’s budget, including expenses and revenue generated by rentals, Center-based fee programs, relevant grants, and the retail store.

Essential Functions

  • Lead and oversee the Volunteer Program including recruitment, training and coordination of all volunteer duties.
  • With input from key staff, write and finalize contracts with independent contractors in accordance with the organization’s policies. Support the Executive Director, and NAS staff with respect to the negotiated terms and any additional changes to the agreements.
  • Lead administrative staff to maintain grant financial files/records and provide guidance and support to Director and staff in the preparation of financial components of grant reports ensuring compliance with terms of the grant. 
  • Assist in grant writing duties.
  • Support Director through coordination of logistics for Rowe Stewardship Board and committee meetings. Communicate meeting details, assemble and edit meeting agendas and materials. Take and maintain board meeting minutes.
  • Working with development staff, lead planning and implementation of all special events at Rowe including fundraisers, donor cultivation experiences, etc.
  • Work with State development staff to maintain fundraising databases for annual appeals, donor events, etc.
  • Establish and grow a robust facilities rental program including updating and maintaining website rental page and advertising components as well as coordinating with renters.
  • Ensure Buildings and Grounds associated with, are maintained in a timely manner.
  • Ensure the Center is adequately staffed at all times utilizing staff and volunteers.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in an environmental field, education or business administration required; Master’s degree or other advanced training is preferred.
  • 5 years’ professional management experience, to include the management of teams and providing oversight to budgets, revenues and expenses.
  • Must possess strong interpersonal and emotional intelligence.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong analytical skills and attention to detail.
  • Self-motivated, dedicated to accomplishing tasks, able to take initiative and solve problems.
  • Experience working with government grants highly desired.
  • Proficiency with Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Adobe Acrobat, and other key Microsoft Office and web-based products. 
  • Commitment to our overall mission of conservation of birds and other wildlife, their habitats, and environmental education.
