We are a leading maritime charity in lifelong learning and personal development and is the governing charity of the Sea Cadet Corps (SCC), a civilian voluntary youth organisation engaging some 15,000 young people over 400 Sea Cadet Units, throughout the UK. The SCC offers a wide range of youth opportunities with the same enduring objective – to give young people the best possible head start in life through nautical adventure and fun.

We are seeking a Chief Instructor who will deliver and coordinate high quality training at our training facility. The boat station delivers key, life changing, experiences to wide ranging groups and client base. This opportunity would suit an experienced watersports professional with a range of knowledge across the industry having a sound grasp of managing, developing and mentoring teams of both employed and volunteer staff. This is an exciting opportunity and will see the successful applicant deliver and oversee sailing, windsurfing, powerboating, rowing and paddlesport while supporting our growing number of boating Instructor qualified volunteers.

Hours of work each week will be variable, but will average approximately 44 hours. The post can be demanding and working hours are as determined by the training programme, which will include evening and weekend working.

Key areas will focus on

  • Leading members of instructional staff encompassing NGB best practice and guidelines
  • Leading adults and young people on a day to day basis
  • Running staff meetings
  • Heading up on the upskilling and training of adults and young people seeking to become qualified boating Instructors

You will be experienced at delivering safe, enjoyable yet challenging boating activity to young people, hold the RYA Senior Instructor qualification and a BC Paddlesports Instructor Award. Holding one of the following instructor qualifications would be beneficial; RYA Start Windsurfing instructor, RYA Powerboat Instructor with RYA Safety Boat. Knowledge of basic boat maintenance would be very useful.
