We use Cycle Coaching and Forest School to provide personal development opportunities for disadvantaged children and young people to develop the self-confidence, work ethic, emotional resilience and team working through the completion of small, achievable tasks. We enable them to achieve new things and find out what they are really capable of. We encourage them to apply these skills in other scenarios e.g. home, their community and school, to empower them to build a better future for themselves, and raise their aspirations.

Job description

This is a freelance, zero-hours contract role for freelance outdoor activity/cycling instructors. Working term time only Monday- Friday, average day 8:30am-4:00pm.

Our cycling instructors are required to work across 1 or more schools in North Worcestershire and Dudley and Sandwell Boroughs. Working with groups of pupils in 1:1 or groups of up to 16 pupils. Placements work with age 3 to18. Some groups have Special Educational Needs. You do not have to be comfortable working with the full age range, and all educational needs but this is preferred.

You will be required to plan and deliver ability and age-appropriate cycling sessions from learn to ride and progressing to road, mountain bike and BMX skills. This role allows you to be creative in your delivery to engage children and young people in cycling and inspire them to love riding bikes! With complete beginners it enables you the very rewarding task of teaching children to ride a bike for the very first time.

This role is very rewarding and flexible but requires a lot of energy and enthusiasm for cycling and for young people. It is flexible to selecting which locations, ages, abilities and days of the week you can work.

Requirements/Qualifications:

  • Experience coaching cycling or other activity
  • Cycle coaching qualification such as British Cycling, MIAS, Bikeability
  • First Aid certificate (desirable)
  • DBS (desirable)
  • Safeguarding certificate (desirable)
  • Experience working with children/young people
  • Experience planning and delivering coaching sessions
  • Experience of writing and working to risk assessments
  • Flexibility, interpersonal skills, good communication skills and enthusiasm are key to success in this position.
  • You may also be required to transport equipment such as bikes and helmets.
