Equine & Ranch Managers: Couple

Looking for a couple team with exceptional equine and ranch management skills for a sanctuary on a private ranch. Individuals who do not have a strong background managing horses and ranches need not apply. Individuals must have discretion and integrity. The ranch is a sanctuary for 65 untrained horses on a pristine private ranch with abundant wildlife. Because of the semi-remote location the position is best suited for a couple team. Perfect for a couple who love being outdoors and living in rural environments. Only 25 minutes to a small town with amenities and 1.5 hours to Redding , CA.. Must be self directed, hard working, resourceful, love the lifestyle, attention to detail, have integrity and discretion. Good communication skills, reporting and high standard of care. Equine husbandry and gentling skills, fencing, flood irrigation, a must. In addition to horse equine management, any interested applicants must be preservation minded individuals with respect for all wildlife and the environment. Employer is an organization operating on a private ranch. Owner of ranch requires privacy. References and backround check required.

Job requirements:

  • Maintain high standard for equine herd and individual horse health
  • Maintain high standard of organized, clean and operable: pastures, equine corrals, cottage and all areas used by the organization.
  • Manage and enforce high standard of safety and security.
  • Maintain in good repair and functionality fence lines, gates, pastures, feed, water, handling area, sorting
  • pens, chute, hay storage, RTF vehicles , tools and equipment.
  • Manage pasture irrigation for healthy rotation
  • Oversee haying for winter feed
  • Feed Horses, provide supplements
  • Socialize young horses to human touch, gentle handling
  • Move horses for healthy rotation/pasture health
  • Move electrical fencing around
  • Check and treat any injuries or illness
  • Check fence lines, gates and water areas
  • Harrow fields to maintain pastures (manure etc.)
  • Repairs to existing fence lines, corrals, horse buildings and cottage
  • Clear old fences and debris
  • Plow snow from access roads to horse areas
  • Maintain all vehicles, equipment and tools
  • Welding projects & repairs
  • Handle hydraulic squeeze chute when horses need medical treatment, farrier work etc.
  • Transport horses as needed
  • General ranch work and equine care
  • Oversee Contractors and special projects/improvements
  • Provide monthly report on Equines and all ranch activities
  • Maintain active communication with Sanctuary Director and Supervisor
  • Have all invoices to accountant promptly
  • Ability to handle any situation professionally
  • Other duties as assigned
