Job Description

Senior Sailing Instructors wanted to lead our Sailing Summer Sailing Program for children.

Join our happy team for summer 2021. Our Sailing School has been operating for 22 years and every runs a happy, energetic day sailing camp for children from age 6 to 17 using a fleet of Optis, Sunfish, 420s, Laser Bahia, RS Tera and more boats.

Two positions available for two separate locations close to Irvington/Kilmarnock, Virginia

June 7th to August 14th or 21st for position 1

June 14th to July 17th for position 2

(some flexibility with above dates - could start earlier or finish earlier or later. Possibility of some time off for regattas etc)

Responsibilities:

Lead a small team of instructors/trainees.

Maintain daily routine of check ins, lesson planning for day, preparing boats, keeping routine on schedule, thorough end of day reporting.

Promote and maintain happy, safe environment for children. Allow no cliques or bullying within student groups and also within instructor/ helper groups. Ensure use of sunblock, adequate water consumption, and pay attention to needs of each student, particularly the younger ones (age 6/7/8)

Take good care of equipment, boats, engines. Keep rescue boats clean, and properly equipped.

Teach sailing to a high standard while ensuring that children are happy and engaged.

Pay attention to weather and be flexible with schedule as needed.

Work is Monday to Friday. Work times vary from 8.30/8.45 start to 4pm/4.30 finish

Occasional work on Saturdays or Sundays (Instructors take turn to be on standby).

Use of school boats and also school J24s for instructor sailing after work or on days off.

No accommodation provided

Payment varies according to experience but in the region of $12 per hour, plus occasional tips.

Requirements:

You should be at least 18 years old, preferably older.

US Sailing Level 1Instructor qualification

Current First aid/CPR

Current Safesport

Virginia Boaters Ed license (or other state equivalent)

Previous experience teaching children how to sail

Good sailing skills

Good powerboat handling skills

Being inclined to burst into song occasionally is considered a good point!

Job Types: Full-time, Part-time

Pay: From $11.25 per hour
