Job Description

We are a 1-year-old, modern indoor climbing gym in the Salmon Arm BC. With over 2500 square feet of climbing surface, we offer top-rope, bouldering, beginner area and slacklining. We are committed to delivering great climbing experiences and outstanding customer service, while talking good care of our employees, our climbers, and the community. 

Expected Duties: 
Instructors have the largest customer interaction of all our staff and need to be motivated and dynamic individuals who enjoy working with people and instructing indoor rock climbing.

Specific duties will include: 

  • Using Rock Gym Pro POS system
  • Educating customers to climb competently on the bouldering and top rope wall.
  • Introducing climbing safety to new climbers, including the proper use of rental equipment and auto belays
  • Teaching short technique classes on a variety of topics including belaying
  • Teaching Group lessons to children and adults of varying ability levels
  • Teaching Private, Semiprivate and small group lessons to children and adults of varying ability levels
  • Evaluating experienced climbers on proper belay technique
  • Ensuring the safety of customers within the facility
  • Route Setting
  • Small Gym Maintenance

Ideal Pre-requisites: 

  • Experience instructing belaying
  • Extensive experience climbing indoors
  • Excellent teaching abilities
  • Phenomenal customer interaction abilities
  • Professional attitude and an eagerness to share their love of climbing

All Instructors are required to have current first aid training, equivalent to St. John Ambulance Standard First Aid with CPR. Because our employees work with children, we require all successful candidates to have a CRC performed, which we will pay for. It is the intention that all instructors obtain certification as a Climbing Gym Instructor, through CWA(or ACMG). If you do not have any Climbing Gym Instructor certification, you will be expected to demonstrate that you are with reach and qualifications to obtain it. We will pay the cost of this certification as well. This is a full-time position that will consist of 33 scheduled hours evenings on weekdays, and during the day on weekends. The reaming hours will be made up of lessons booked at the instructor’s discretion.
