Guided Tours on Mount Tarawera

Standing sentinel high above Rotorua, Mt Tarawera is revered by local Maori and offers a unique adventure for those who come and explore it on a guided tour with us

 

About the Role:

We are looking for the ideal candidate to join our Whanau as a Driver/Guide for the Mt Tarawera Volcanic Crater Experience.

Mountain guides may do some or all of the following:

  • Checkin, transport and drive clients to activities
  • Lead, guide and encourage people taking part in activities
  • Assess risks involved in an activity, taking into account the weather and different clients' abilities
  • Prepare/maintain/minimise signposting or fencing, paths and hazards
  • Execute safety procedures including checking equipment, rescue practices, and providing first aid if necessary
  • Clean and fuel vehicles
  • Clean and store equipment after use
  • Keep logbooks of trips

Mt Tarawera guides are often paid by hour or trip*. Pay for Mt Tarawera guides varies depending on experience, qualifications, and the type of work they do.

*Guides may be paid extra for longer trips with more clients.

Skills and experience

The Successful Applicant will:

  • Hold a clean Full drivers licence with P-Endorsement.
  • Demonstrate excellent organisational, social, communication and documentation skills.
  • Be confident in portraying Tikanga Maori and Whanaungatanga.
  • Be a confident speaker, able to work in a fast paced environment and possess an unwavering passion for delivering a truly unique Kaitiaki Adventures Experience.
  • Hold a current outdoors first aid certificate (preferred but not essential)
  • Undergo a standard pre-employment drug screening

 

Working conditions

Mountain guides:

  • May work long and irregular hours, including weekends
  • Will work in a mountainous terrain
  • May work in hot, cold, wet, windy conditions
