With thousands of miles of waterways in our care, we want to be recognised as a go-to destination for a great recreational water experience. Together with British Canoeing, we are looking to recruit a talented project manager who can help us make this happen in a supportive and consistent way; meeting the demands of this growing audience, whilst also being sensitive to our conservation ambitions.
PLEASE NOTE: This is a 2-year fixed term opportunity, and we are welcoming external and internal applicants. If you are looking to take this on as a secondment, please get the approval from your current Line Manager. Whilst a central role, it will be based working from home with the opportunity to have desk space in the regional offices nearest to where you reside.
Internally this role is known as Active Outdoors Assistant Consultant
What it's like to work here:We’re bigger than you think, we’re more complicated than we appear and we’re larger scale than you’d imagine. We’ve got passionate people in all our teams, and we’ve got so much more we want to achieve. We’re for ever, for everyone and we really mean that. We don’t want to stop at 5.5 million members and we want everyone to feel welcome and enjoy access to our places, so we need to reach new audiences in ways that are meaningful and relevant to them without losing the hearts and minds of those that are already with us.
What you'll be doing:A hugely exciting and dynamic role, you will work closely within the Active Outdoors team, Regions and properties as well as British Canoeing teams. You will build positive relationships with key stakeholders both internally (including Land & Nature, Operational Risk, Visitor experience, Membership and Marketing) and externally to ensure that we have the highest levels of expertise to draw on to support the development and delivery of this project.
This project is not new work; it is about extending on some of the activities already taking place and responding to the pull from properties to enhance and further develop this offer. This project is about developing a consistent approach and support to increase access to blue spaces, allowing people to connect deeply to nature and enhance their own wellbeing. We want to make it easier for more diverse audiences to engage with our places, and this could be via facilitated paddle sport activities and events or self-led experiences. We want to meet the demands of this growing audience, whilst also being sensitive to our conservation ambitions.
Communication is key. Your role will be to ensure our communication channels are up to date and effectively delivering information and actionable messages across the programme and to the regions. It will be important to share what properties are doing, best practice guidance, and ideas that are having a positive known impact.
You will spot all avenues to be an advocate for the Active Outdoors and British Canoeing programmes, working collaboratively across many areas and regions to develop and deliver on our outdoor ambitions.
