Job Description

Key Work Areas 
 

  • To lead the Recreation Ranger team across the wider south district beats. To include direct line management and lead on operational and project delivery for all the team.

 

  • Operational lead for recreation management across the wider beats. Ownership of Health & Safety matters for recreation assets, developing systems and procedures for Recreation and Public Affairs and Beat Teams, in line with our policy and guidance.

 

  • Keep abreast of wider industry practice and national policy and steer local adherence and delivery, with a particular focus on managing mountain bike wild trails. Develop and implement strategic solutions to introduce appropriate responses and models that will inspire and engage, whilst also minimising risk and achieving consistency across the District.

 

  • Working with other recreational colleagues to ensure effective engagement with communities. The post holder will play a key role in the delivery of new woodland and forest recreation opportunities across a number of locations as population and pressures increase throughout the region.

 

  • Support the identification of improvements to the existing facilities to improve income generation and business efficiency. Plan and manage budgets to deliver operational business plans.

 

  • Identify and achieve value for money, cost efficiencies and maximising opportunities across geographical boundaries wherever possible. Rationalise existing contracts and agreements to maximise efficiencies of commissioning, procurement and delivery of services across the District/Beats.

 

  • Project Management - The post holder will be responsibly for a diverse range of Recreation projects. These will cover all aspects of Recreation ranging from effective management of risk to development of new recreation opportunities.

 

Responsibilities

Essential 

Experience in a relevant discipline such as visitor centre/countryside management, public access or outdoor recreation management. 

Demonstrable experience of applying health and safety legislation to a recreation facility. 

Experience leading and managing a team. 

Experience in the management or supervision of budgets, contracts, contractors and partnership businesses. 

Competent IT user and proficiency in MS office programmes including Word, PowerPoint & Excel. 

Desirable 

A qualification in a relevant discipline such as leisure, tourism, countryside management visitor or recreation management. 

Training and experience of applying CDM regulations. 

Evidence of strong communication and relationship building skills including dealing with conflict and sensitive issues 

Experience of delivering models for engagement and management of mountain biking.
