Job Description

Reports to:  Outdoor Pursuits Watersports Manager

The Scuba Instructor will deliver the highest level of service to our members by providing personal, gracious, and professional service always. He/She specializes in demonstrating safe scuba diving techniques, working outdoors most often underwater, for most of the day. The Scuba Instructor will be responsible for daily trips and excursions, delivering a world class service to the members while ensuring standard procedures and safety are followed for all lessons and trips. 

Key Responsibilities

Activities:

  • Attend morning and evening briefings.
  • Store all OP and activity equipment in its’ correct location.
  • Touching base and maintain enthusiasm with members daily, encouraging activities and putting into place all necessary preparations for the trips and excursions to provide World class service and instruction.
  • Facilitate and instruct members and staff in the activities and sports bakers bay offer which you are experienced and/or qualified in. 
  • To ensure member and staff safety at all times. Refer any requests regarded as unsafe or any guests refusing to cooperate on safety issues to management.
  • Ensure that all Diving, kitesurfing, wakeboarding and wake surfing, paddle boarding and any other related equipment are maintained in excellent working order. Effect repairs as necessary. 
  • Coordinate orders to ensure necessary parts are obtained following standard PO procedure as well as following set budget guidelines.
  • Ensure all monthly safety checks are carried out & followed up and logged on the system.
  • Ensure correct presentation of the OP department areas ensuring that it is clean, organized and professional. Make sure that all equipment is secured at the end of each day. Make sure that equipment is accounted for and that all members are safely ashore. Conduct guest count as required.
  • Assist in other OP services as required, including Ropes course, and assist with any duties that may be requested by your manager or supervisors

Diving Specific:

  • Facilitating scuba services, including but not limited to:
  •  Guided Dive Outings
  •  Intro to scuba programs
  •  Scuba certification courses
  • Caring for and maintaining all scuba equipment to ensure quality and safety standards
  • Ensuring cylinders are up to date with visual inspections and hydro testing
  • Ensuring compressor is serviced and maintained
  • Maintain enthusiasm for scuba while encouraging participation with members and guests
  • Setting up and breaking down all equipment used for scuba 
  • Keeping a record of member diving credentials and equipment sizes
  • Keeping an up to date ‘dive logbook’ 
  • Adhering to safety standards to ensure the well-being of all scuba participants

Boats:

  • Strictly adhere to the safety protocol for the boats and OP Department
  • Drive the power boats for member excursions, transfers and snorkel trips in accordance to the guidance and directions given by the management and the power boat protocol.
  • Ensure correct boats are used for correct purposes.
  • Ensure the boat fleet’s regular maintenance is carried out and recorded.
  • Ensure the boat fleets regular safety checks are carried out and recorded. Any concerns with potentially faulty equipment must be reported to management and taken off the vessel until inspected by management.
  • Ensure that all necessary safety equipment is available and in perfect working order. This includes life jackets, first aid kits, spinal board, oxygen, flares, fire extinguishers and all related safety equipment. 
  • Ensure boats are kept clean, polished, fueled and presentable.
  • Ensure the mooring systems on the docks are well maintained and carry out repairs to include cleats, lazy-Lines, mooring whips, fenders and cushions.
  • To ensure guest and staff safety at all times. Refer any requests regarded as unsafe or any guests refusing to cooperate on safety issues to management.
  • Ensure docks are kept at an appropriate standard.
  • Organize and coordinate the use of boats.

 

Health and Safety:

  • Always work within the company statutory Health and Safety guidelines set by activities management team.
  • Ensure you always wear required PPE protection.
  • Maintain a clean and safe working environment.
  • Observe and abide to local pollution and COSHH regulations regarding disposal of waste materials, chemical and hazardous substances.
  • Be an active member of the fire Marshal team and keep all fire equipment in the department up to date

 

Skills and Qualifications

  • Minimum 3 years of experience in a 4-5-star resort setting or in the luxury related field 
  • Must hold a professional scuba instructor certification by PADI
  • Previous experience in the guest service industry
  • Must be First aid certified
  • Boat captains license 
  • Scuba equipment servicing technician qualifications a plus
  • Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal skills.
  • Must be able to work independently and as part of a team.
