SENIOR SKIPPER - Day Charters

MIN QUALIFICATION – Coxswain NC1 or NC2

A bit about us…

We are a thriving charter business operating on the beautiful Gold Coast Broadwater aboard a fleet of Seawind Catamarans.   We specialise in day charters including celebrations, corporate events and romantic charters for groups of up to 30 guests.     Our company ethos is laid back yet professional and our team are fun loving and highly rated by our guests.   Having recently welcomed a third sailing catamaran to our fleet, we are seeking a Senior Skipper who will bring to the role strong industry experience and excellent guest relations skills. 

A bit about the position…

We are currently recruiting a senior level skipper capable of providing excellent service to our guests as well as assisting in operations management, staff training/development and vessel maintenance and mechanical repairs.    The successful candidate will report directly to the business owner. 

Some of the key responsibilities of this role will include but are not limited to the following;

  • Prepare vessels for operation
  • Oversee and assist in maintenance of vessels
  • Trouble shoot and repair any mechanical issues which may arise 
  • Conduct new staff training/inductions
  • Assist in ongoing management of crew (with owner involvement)
  • Assist in management of OHS/ SMS and operational procedures
  • Provide a professional yet laid-back and enjoyable service to our guests 
  • Ensure safe operation of the vessels
  • Ensure the welfare and safety of all passengers and crew
  • Maintain vessel logs and required paperwork
  • Ability to 'see and act' on any issues that  may arise
  • Ability to direct guests and crew as required

A bit about you…

To shine in this role you will be a multi-talented individual with experience in skippering commercial charters in a passenger facing capacity.    You have a lust for life and an ability to connect with people of all ages and backgrounds, you would feel just at home skippering a high energy hen’s party as a more polished corporate event.    You have worked in a previous supervisory role and are confident in managing people, with a management style that ensures crew harmony, happiness and efficiency.   You know your way around an engine and feel confident to get in and fix any issues that may arise.    You take initiative to identify vessel maintenance requirements as well as opportunities to improve the business operations and thrive on finding and implementing solutions.   

Ideally you will have:

  • Minimum qualification - Current coxswain, NC1 or NC2
  • 5+ years experience as a commercial skipper
  • 2+ years in a supervisory capacity
  • Demonstrated abilities and experience in vessel handling and maintenance and a willingness to be hands on in this regard
  • Demonstrated abilities and experience in staff management
  • Ability to pitch in and work as part of a team of 2 (skipper and GPH) on all charters 
  • A friendly, outgoing and approachable personality and a love of people and fun.
  • Reliable and consistent availability on weekends and some week days
  • Excellent customer service skills and understanding of the importance of, and ability to encourage, customer feedback and reviews.
  • High energy levels, physically fit.
  • Enthusiastic and optimistic attitude
  • Basic mechanical knowledge including outboard and diesel engines and electrical.
  • Sailing experience preferred but not essential.
  • Current 1st aid certificate (or prepared to get)
  • As we are a licensed venue we would require the applicant to hold a current RSA ticket (or ability to obtain one).
