Job Description

Position Summary

The primary role of the position is to provide professional instruction of skiing and/or snowboarding to guests of all ages, levels and abilities throughout the season.

Primary Responsibilities/Duties

  • Provide guests with a fun, safe, enjoyable and memorable learning experience while exploring appropriate terrain at Powderhorn
  • Teach skiing and snowboarding to toddlers, children, teenagers and adults at various levels
  • Conduct lessons according to the standards set out by PSIA, AASI
  • Be knowledgeable of timing needed for lifts and teaching terrain so instructors are prompt for check-in and other lessons
  • Be knowledgeable of the programs Powderhorn offers and carry prices and maps to share with guests
  • Know and teach the Skiers Responsibility Code
  • Ensure students equipment is adequate and comfortable
  • Assist in setting-up and running special events when needed
  • Know the safety procedures for missing or injured students and guests
  • Use proper radio etiquette when issued a portable radio
  • Read and adhere to all instructions and policies in the Powderhorn Seasonal Employee Handbook
  • Provide guidance for appropriate terrain to pursue
  • Other duties as assigned

Certifications/Licenses/Training

  • PSIA or AASI Certification
  • Seasonal Orientation
  • All Safety Training related to position, including company-wide safety process and procedures

Work Environment

This position is based outside, and is exposed to temperature extremes (above 85 degrees and below 20 degrees), sun and wind, inclement weather (rain, snow, ice) and high altitudes (8200 + feet). Must be able to walk on even/uneven/slippery terrain, climb/descend even/uneven/slippery terrain, climb/descend stairs, stand and/or sit for long periods of time, bend, stoop, reach, push, pull, and lift a minimum of 60 pounds.
