What the role is all about:

The successful applicant will have a strong ability to prioritize multiple high acuity tasks in a fast pace environment. They will be able to confidently work through multi-faceted challenges as they arise with a friendly and mature demeanour. Previous experience working in emergency medical services, firefighting, search and rescue, and a public or recreational facility will give the candidate a strong platform from which to grow within the organization.

As a Patroller, you will be reporting to the Patrol Team Lead. The successful candidate will be responsible for the delivery of first aid and medical assessments and treatment to guests, staff, and volunteers.

Responsibilities - You will be required but not limited to:

  • Following the company Medical Control Protocols, provide prompt and efficient delivery of first aid and medical assessment and treatment to guests, staff, and volunteers in all areas of the facility
  • Initiate and maintain Patient Care Reports, and other documentation as required
  • Perform incident investigation
  • Monitor hazards in the mountain bike/ski areas, and across campus
  • Inspect ski, snowboard, and mountain bike trails, jumps, and features
  • Open and close ski, snowboard, and mountain bike trails as required
  • Operate radio, and telecommunication equipment following company protocols
  • Monitor, record, and report on all emergency equipment including AED’s, medical supplies, first aid kits, and emergency call box systems
  • Assist in all park-wide emergency evacuations (Fire/Ammonia/Weather)
  • Embody the foundational values of a safety-based culture by adhering to company safety policy and procedures
  • Integrate safety protocols to ensure maximized safety of self, co-workers, supervisors, and guests
  • Ensure compliance with posted OH+S advisories, and work closely with Risk Department managers to implement a safety-based culture
  • Adhere to, and enforce, all rules and regulations regarding COVID-19.
  • Conduct guest discipline as required
  • Other duties as delegated

Qualifications / Skills:

  • Must be over 18 years of age
  • A minimum of 40hr Advanced Wilderness First Aid ticket is required (must be renewed every three years); EMS education / ACoP registration an asset
  • Expert ski/snowboard and mountain bike ability
  • Valid class 5 driver’s license; Class 4 license an asset
  • Previous patrol experience an asset
  • Ability to perform all responsibilities with a high level of professionalism
  • Previous snowmobile operating experience an asset
  • Knowledge of the ski/snowboard, and mountain bike area an asset

Work Conditions:

  • This is a physically demanding position due to the nature of skiing, snowboarding, mountain biking, and the practice of remote extrication
  • May be required to be outside for up to 100% of the time on shift
  • Environmental exposures may involve: Extreme cold, hot, wet and/or humid weather, sunlight, wind, hail, among others
  • Other exposures may include: Infectious diseases, needle-stick injuries and inherent risks of skiing, snowboarding, and mountain biking, among others
  • Lifting no more than 125lbs with frequent lifting and/or carrying objects weighing up to 50lbs
  • May be required to stand for periods up to 4 hours
  • Constant kneeling, bending and twisting

Training Requirements:

We will provide the successful applicant with the following training:

  • Company Medical Control Protocol training, and continuing education
  • UTV, Rescue Toboggan and Snowmobile Training
  • High and low angle rope rescue
