Job Description

Principal Function: The Adventure Camp Zip Line Leader is responsible for overseeing the zip line activities and equipment to ensure the safety of all campers. Supervises the use of a zip line that is 250 feet in length and 15 feet high.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities: Duties include, but are not limited to:

  • Implements an approved, weekly program schedule for assigned campers and assists all campers with special needs as outlined by the American Disabilities Act (ADA) requirements.
  • Ensures camp zip line is safe, secure and maintained. This includes daily set-up, inspection, and take-down.
  • Coordinates necessary zip line maintenance, including the surrounding area, with the Camp Senior Manager.
  • Ensures campers are educated, use appropriate safety precautions and procedures in the use of the camp zip line.
  • Leads other camp staff members in the safe operation of the zip line.
  • Performs Camp Counselor functions as needed to ensure program operation. This may include leading youth in activities such as swimming and canoeing, arts and crafts, archery, hiking, and campfire cooking.
  • Checks and maintains camp facilities, equipment and personal first aid kit and communicates supply needs to the Camp Senior Manager.
  • Maintains check-in and check-out records for all assigned campers.
  • Records daily attendance of campers and reports absences, late arrivals or early departures to the Camp Director.
  • Communicates with campers' parents and/or guardians in a courteous and professional manner.
  • Responds as needed to any medical/emergency needs of campers and staff.
  • Participates in pre-season trainings (May 24 through 27, 2021) and helps with end of season clean-up August 8th, 2021.

Schedule/Compensation/Qualifications

Schedule and Hours: The standard hours for this position are Monday through Friday, from 8:00a-4:00p. Some staff may work early arrival care beginning at 7:15a or late departure care until 5:30p. Staff training begins on May 24th, 2021 and camp begins on June 1st, 2021. The last day of camp is August 8th, 2021. Must be able to attend staff training week and at least 8 of the 10 weeks of camp. Compensation: This is a 40 hours/week , seasonal position that is eligible for approved overtime. Benefits are not provided. Pay is based on experience and starts at $10.75/hour.

Qualifications/Education/Experience: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty according to the requirements of the organization.   • Must be 18 years of age or a graduate of high school.
  • High school diploma is required. At least one semester of college is preferred.
  • Basic First Aid training and at least two years of practical experience OR advanced first aid certification with some practical experience is required. Nursing school or Physician Assistant school experience, EMT certification, Wilderness First Responder certification, or Wilderness First Aid certification preferred.
  • Experience in childcare is required. Experience working with youth at a camp or school is preferred.
  • Must have an outgoing personality.
  • Must be able to work independently.
  • Must be able to maintain high professional standards of Conner Prairie.
  • Must have fun, friendly and patient personality.

Other Skills and Abilities: The following skills and abilities are either required or desired.

  • The ability to cultivate relationships with and mentor children is required.
  • The ability to swim in pond water with a life vest is required.
  • The ability to paddle a canoe is required.

Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision (clear vision at 20 inches or less), distance vision (clear vision at 20 feet or more), color vision (ability to identify and distinguish colors), peripheral vision (ability to observe an area that can be seen up and down or to the left and right while eyes are fixed on a given point), depth perception (three-dimensional vision, ability to judge distances and spatial relationships), and the ability to adjust focus (ability to adjust the eye to bring an object into sharp focus).
