Job Description

We are currently accepting resumes from individuals in Santa Barbara to join our team as a local SUP/ Kayak Tour Guide. There will be a few weekends of work this year, starting immediately, and will restart again in May.

We're a small, growing company with an obsession for all things adventure. We offer a range of tours and experiences from bucket list travel adventures, car camping and backpacking trips, taste vacations, and mini 1-day adventures. If hired, you will be an employee, not a contractor. Employment is not guaranteed for the year. Assignments will be intermittent and sporadic, but there is lots of room to grow with the company. You may start off guiding our Santa Barbara SUP/ Kayak adventures, but those who wish to excel could be leading our international trips sooner than later.

Requirements:

  • Must be at least 21 years of age
  • Must be able to work weekends
  • At a minimum and current: Adult First Aid/CPR Certification
  • Provide a completed Leave No Trace Certification
  • Love working with people and love the outdoors
  • Confident organizing groups of people, detail-oriented, and competent working independently and remotely.
  • Capable of teaching people how to SUP and kayak
  • Be able to provide in-depth information about the history of Santa Barbara, the local flora, fauna, etc.
  • Legal to work in the United States
  • Own a computer/tablet and smartphone

Typical Responsibilities:

  • Welcome Adventure People to their adventure with a speech and introduction to educate the group on their upcoming adventure, our mission, and our brand.
  • Collect liability waivers.
  • Manage group dynamics including facilitating, coaching through challenges, effective communication, conversation, awareness of self and group needs, and making sure that each traveler is having an AMAZING time.
  • Keep your group on schedule without making the group feel rushed.
  • Make and/or confirm reservations for wine tasting.
  • Guide the group on a specific route and assist any travelers who need SUP or kayaking instruction.
  • There will be highly unpredictable environments and circumstances. On the water, you are often at the mercy of the weather. Guides MUST be able to proactively solve problems and make quick decisions in a professional manner with limited support that maintains an exceptional experience for our travelers.
  • Collaborate with our third-party vendors to ensure Adventure People have an exceptional experience.
  • Log detailed notes in the trip report including changes, weather, the performance of vendors, arising issues, and any other pertinent information.
  • Work efficiently and effectively with a co-guide, when applicable.
  • Get to know and engage with travelers on an individual basis. Learn their story, their passion, their talent through authentic conversation. It's incredibly rewarding!
  • Post quality content to social media and Instagram.

Job Type: Part-time

Pay: $13.00 - $15.00 per hour
