We have been a staple in the outdoor industry for nearly 20 years, delivering a range of outdoor adventure and education programs to clients in the upper North Island. Over the last few years, we’ve developed a stronger approach to the tertiary training side of the business. Because of this, we are now offering both the NZC in Outdoor and Adventure Education (Level 4)(Multi-Skilled), NZD in Outdoor and Adventure Education (Level 5)(Multi-Skilled) and New Zealand Certificate in Outdoor Leadership (Instruction)(Level 5). Our focus is on providing student-centred education and quality employees to the outdoor industry.

What we are looking for two tutors to join our small tertiary teaching team. There is a broad spectrum of subjects so our focus is on recruiting people who can complement each other to cover the full range of subjects across both programmes. Candidates will need substantial experience teaching in multiple subjects, backed up by industry qualifications. Ideally, candidates should be happy in a changing environment, keen to take on a modern approach to teach and be highly motivated by watching students achieve and grow.

Experience/Skills/Qualifications

  • Subject Expertise (with supporting qualifications) in 2 or more of the following:
    • M?tauranga M?ori
    • Organisational Health and Safety
    • Outdoor Education, Leadership, Teaching
    • Outdoor Pursuits: Sea Kayaking, Bush, MTB, Climbing, High Ropes
  • Adult Teaching Qualification/Experience
  • Full Drivers Licence with Passenger endorsement (or ability to get one)
  • Experience using Google Classrooms or similar on-line learning platforms

Working hours are dependent on subject areas. Classroom-based subjects are generally taught between 9 am - 4 pm Monday through Thursday. Outdoor pursuit trips depart on Mondays and normally return on Wednesday. Those who apply based on expertise in the pursuits must be happy to be away overnight regularly.

Hours of work are dependent on the subject being taught. We teach 4 courses per term and each course averages out to 0.5 FTE every fortnight. Candidates will be subject to a Criminal Background Check.
