Job Description

You will have day to day responsibility for the standards of lessons and courses, wellbeing of students and instructors, bookings, customer experience, safety provision, equipment care and centre and beach presentation.

Your role will involve being active in managing, supporting and training instructors and other staff as well as teaching sailing and stand up paddleboarding to adults and children through courses and tasters. Managing equipment hire, safety boat cover, large annual Swim and SUP events, powerboat tuition and facilitating land based sessions will also be within the scope of the role.

Overall we are a small business flexibility and openness to a range of tasks, duties and work is essential. At times you will be required to support shop and cafe operations.

Requirements

Essential

  • RYA Senior Dinghy Instructor (Coastal)

  • BSUPA Level 2 Stand Up Paddleboarding Instructor (or equivilant ASI / BSU)

  • Coastal Dinghy Instructor Experience

  • Coastal SUP Instructor Experience

  • Managing a Team

  • Proficient at training and developing others

  • Robust planning and organisational skills

  • Commercial awareness

Desirable

  • RYA CAT Instructor

  • RYA Senior Windsurf Instructor

  • RYA Powerboat Instructor

  • Sea Kayaking Instructor Experience

  • Coasteering Instructor Experience

  • Land Based Activities Instructor Experience

  • Experience using wordpress

  • Planning social media content

Responsibilities

People Management

  • Setting direction for the team and maintaining two way communication with team members

  • Agreeing objectives, targets and expectations with the team

  • Having regular one to ones and developing the teams skills and abilities

  • Supporting and providing individuals with feedback coaching and training

  • Motivating the team and building and maintaining a strong team spirit

Customer Experience

  • Delivering a high quality watersports propositions

  • Ensuring excellent customer service standards

  • Maintaining personalised service and tailored products, lessons and courses

  • Delivering high quality value for money structured lessons

  • Prioritising customers safety at all times

Organisation

  • Managing annual watersports strategic goals, plans and calendar of events

  • Managing monthly and weekly calender

  • Managing daily tasks and plans

  • Watersports Decision-making

  • Making sound session decisions based on forecasts reports.

  • Recognising and mitigating potential dangers in and out of the water.

  • Creatively adapting session plans in light of conditions whilst maintaining optimal customer experience.

Stakeholder Management

  • Proactively approach building and managing effective relationships with school we work with including school heads, secretaries and key contacts.

  • Building constructive working relationships with locals and nearby businesses.

  • Presenting a clear and credible profile of yourself and Polkerris Beach to others.

Reports To: Business Owners/Directors

The Company is a family run business that provides award winning water sports in an idyllic Cornish cove. This job would suit an individual with solid experience managing a team and working in the water sports industry as well as those looking to work as part of a flexible, active and sociable team.

DATES OF EMPLOYMENT 2021

  • Mid march onwards

  • This contract is for a Full Time, Permanent position which operates on a 8 month basis running from mid March – mid November annually.
