Activity Manager - Forest of Dean

Reports to: Site Manager

Job Role

The Activity Manager’s role is to work closely with the Site Manager to successfully run the site by taking responsibility for the day-to-day leadership and management of staff and health and safety, and may involve any other aspect of site operation including equipment, facilities, customer-care, administration or local marketing.

The Activity Manager is a key member of the sites management structure and therefore the successful candidate will ideally have experience of team leadership and management, staff training and the ability to work under their own initiative as well as the desire to take ownership of essential functions within a busy activity centre.

This is a challenging and rewarding role and requires the ability to prioritise tasks and strong leadership and communication skills. Good organizational skills and a keen eye for detail as well as a positive attitude and willing and friendly disposition will assist you to succeed in this role.

Main Duties:

Health and Safety

Operate the site in accordance with Company Procedures, including:

  • Training all new staff in company policies and procedures
  • Keeping risk assessments up to date
  • Keeping records of all site checks actioning work as required
  • Maintaining PPE and safety equipment in good order and recording same
  • Maintaining site in good serviceable order including the cabin
  • Ensuring all participants complete a Risk Acknowledgement Form
  • All paperwork needs to be filed in date order and archived appropriately
  • Ensuring safety briefs, assessments, rescues and practices are done in line with Company Procedures
  • Reporting, investigating and analysing incidents and accidents

Team Management

In conjunction with Site Manager recruit and manage an effective site team by:

  • Recruitment of a staff team to meet sites operational requirements adehering to company guidelines
  • Creating staff rotas to meet budgets, keeping and submitting records of hours worked, holidays and absence
  • Conducting induction meetings to welcome new staff
  • Conducting probation reviews
  • Conducting annual and regular performance appraisals and creating performance improvement and training and development plans as required
  • Managing performance, and where necessary follow disciplinary procedures, in accordance with company procedures, with support from the People team
  • Conducting regular team meetings
  • Completing exit interviews

Customer Service & Safety

Lead the site team and ensure a high standard of service in:

  • Customer enquiries & bookings
  • Welcome of customers and preparation for site activities
  • Ensuring all participants meet all operational requirements and are fully prepared to take part in activities
  • Minimising and investigating customer complaints and maximising customer satisfaction

Marketing and Finance

Assist in operating a successful site, by:

  • Meeting sales and cost targets as agreed by the Directors
  • Keep receipts of all expenses and mileage as per company procedure
  • Market at site in conjunction with the team at BHQ
  • Cashing up (tills) and banking as per Company procedures

Site Development

Work with other key staff to develop opportunities at site by:

  • Building and maintaining good relationships with key parties: Landowners,  personnel, Altus personnel, Insurers, HSE and Environmental Health Officers and consultants

Personal Professionalism

Read and comply with the Company Handbook

As required:

  • Visit and work at other sites
  • Attend training
  • Additional tasks

Additional Requirements

Prospective Activity Managers will be required to attend ongoing training throughout their contract at various locations across the UK.

It is an operational necessity that Activity Managers be certified to conduct rescues (training provided)

Prospective Activity Managers who, by the end of their training, fail to achieve the standard required to be certified to conduct rescues will not be retained in the role of Activity Manager.
