Job Title: Assistant Diving Manager

Location: Dover

Reports to: Diving Manager
Purpose of Job

To assist in the organisation and coordination of the planning and delivery of diving projects undertaken, whilst also ensuring the diving safety management system and associated plant/equipment is maintained in accordance with internal procedures, legislation and industry best practise.

Principle Duties

  • Prepare, review and update as necessary the initial Dive Project Plans, Method Statements and Risk Assessments required prior to the commencement of each diving project, with support from the Diving Manager.
  • To assume responsibility for the management and organisation of divers training and competency records, this will involve the use of a computer based training matrix and supporting records, in both hard and electronic copy. This will involve regular liaison with divers to ensure the latest issue medical and training qualifications/records are held by us.
  • Carry out audits on the divers training and competency records periodically to ensure all remain in date and current.
  • To prepare and issue the diving project document packs, including all required safety documents, equipment checks, permits to work and necessary authorisation(s) to dive. Following completion of diving projects, the Assistant Diving Manager will be responsible for the orderly filing and archiving or job packs.
  • Ensure that the diving plant and equipment ‘Maintenance Register’ is kept up to date and maintained with all safety critical equipment, including test, inspection and calibration certificates. The Assistant Diving manager will also be responsible for liaising with third party maintenance providers to arrange for the servicing and calibration of plant/equipment to be undertaken in a timely manner when falling due.
  • The Assistant Diving Manager will be responsible for maintaining the good order of the diving site vehicle, ensuring that the diving plant/equipment is stored safely, tidily and in an organised manner so as to ensure continued ability to deploy for site works at short notice.
  • The Assistant Diving Manager will be an experienced HSE Part 1 Surface Supplied Diver or equivalent (minimum) and be “in-date” medically, allowing them to be a permanent member of the dive team when deployed.
  • Ensure that company is adhering to the health and safety requirements as documented in internal procedures, UK legislation and industry best practise. The Assistant Diving Manager must prevent any foreseeable unsafe acts or dangerous working practices occurring and must stop and report any such incidences immediately.
  • To interface with customers with regards to works and potential works whilst representing SMS in a positive and professional manner, seeking and exploring new business opportunities where possible.
  • To assist the Diving Manager with the preparation of quotes for diving works in accordance with customer requirements.
  • Ensure standards of good housekeeping are achieved in all work areas, including workshops, stores, vehicles and at on site locations.
  • Carry out duties with minimum supervision using own initiative to plan and prioritise workload within set timescales. Trouble shooting and solving project complications.
  • Ensuring internal/external emergency arrangements are adhered to by all employees.
  • To ensure that all tools/equipment issued are accounted for and traceable to prevent financial loss to the company and also to report any instances of theft/loss and breakages.
  • To ensure procurement of products is done in an effective manner to achieve the best value/cost saving for items required.
  • To ensure that he/she is contactable via telephone to suit the emergency/responsive nature of the company’s core business and client base and may be expected to undertake on-call activities when required.
  • In addition to the responsibilities listed above, all employees must be flexible in their approach and undertake other duties that are commensurate with the post holder’s level, wherever they may be, to achieve the objectives of the company.

Qualifications for the position of Assistant Diving Manager

  • The Assistant Diving Manager will be an experienced HSE Part 1 Surface Supplied Diver or equivalent (minimum) and be “in-date” medically.
  • The Assistant Diving Manager will have at least five (5) years’ general experience of working within the marine/diving industry in either offshore or inshore diving.
  • Experience of work to classification society rules applicable to the industry, particularly with regards to underwater vessel inspection would be advantageous.
  • Be prepared and confident to travel, as required, for the overall gain of the business.
  • Full UK driving licence required.
  • Must have good demonstrable organisational skills utilising both paper and electronic filing systems.
  • Must be able to interpret technical drawings, schematic parts manuals and diagrams and associated technical data and specifications.
  • Must have relevant experience in the supervision of personnel to include the monitoring of work output and quality.
  • Able to demonstrate a good understanding of IT packages, the internet and email, have the ability to utilise Microsoft software packages including Outlook, Word and Excel.
