Description
Under the direction of the Supervisor, to provide comprehensive avalanche control, information gathering and record keeping. Other duties include first aid treatment to the public and staff; to maintain all areas within the Ski Area Boundary in a safe manner; to maintain a cheerful and courteous relationship with the skiing public; and to ensure the existence of a safe and enjoyable skiing environment, thereby reducing the risk factor and liability of the ski area.

Essential Functions

  • Collection of pertinent data including weather, snowpack and avalanche observations
  • Understanding, evaluating and communicating the avalanche hazard
  • Avalanche control route leader
  • Implement avalanche control strategies
  • Direct avalanche rescue operations
  • Maintenance of all Snow Safety-related equipment
  • Performing other Ski Patrol related tasks
  • Other duties as assigned

Experience/Requirements

  • CAA Operations Level 1 Certificate
  • Valid Alberta Explosives Permit for Avalanche Control
  • Advanced Wilderness First Aid/EMR/80hr Advanced First Aid Certificate or higher
  • Minimum 2 seasons on SSV ski patrol (or equivalent experience)
  • Control Route Leader
  • Rope Rescue team member
  • Intimate knowledge of all terrain and control routes
  • CAA Level 2 Module 1 (recommended)
  • Minimum 1 year as Tech I (or equivalent experience)
  • Rope Rescue team leader
  • Proven Mentorship
  • CAA Active Membership (recommended)
  • Info Ex contributor (recommended)
  • CAA Weather, Rescue or Explosives course completion (recommended)
