Role overview

Working within the council’s Outdoor and Environmental education service, you will be responsible for the management and development of our high quality outdoor and environmental education offer, ensuring the long term viability of the service through implementation of plans that build on the existing offer and expand the scope of the services we can make available to children, young people and our communities..

Key responsibilities

  • Lead the delivery of all operational systems which provide high-quality, effective and economically-viable outdoor learning sessions at the centre, with line management responsibility for all staff employed to teach and/or assist the programmed sessions and budgetary responsibilities for the centre..
  • To lead the team at the Centre to ensure the quality of residential and Day outdoor education to children is delivered to the current high standards, including education outcomes, quality of experience and health and safety..
  • To develop and implement a strategic plan to increase the range of outdoor learning opportunities for children, young people and communities in Oldham. Working with the team to identify additional and appropriate commercial opportunities at the centre..

Key Requirements

To succeed in this role you will need as a minimum:

  • Qualified teacher status OR JNC professional youth work qualification with operation management experience within Outdoor education settings.
  • Mountaineering and climbing instructor award ( or higher), British Canoeing level 2 or equivalent and a full driving licence.
  • Excellent organisational skills will be needed to agree, develop and manage the provision in line with Council expectations and standards
