A new and exciting opportunity to work with one of New Zealand's oldest and most accomplished yacht clubs within a stunning new sports facility. 

This new role will be taking on and building the community and education aspect of the Royal Akarana Yacht Club and the Charitable Trust. Helping deliver our mission of creating safe pathways to the sea through the work of our Academy, adult learn to sail and New Navigators programmes. 

You will have a passion for working with young people mixed with a desire and skills to build and promote our fabulous programmes to a wide audience.

Where you will be based:

The Hyundai Marine Sport Centre prides itself on being a fully inclusive, marine sports hub, capable of hosting world class events whilst delivering outstanding facilities for a myriad of marine based users for competitive, recreational and educational purposes. It is a vibrant destination on the Auckland waterfront that will be open and available to the whole community 

The building is home to the Royal Akarana Yacht Club, the outstanding Akarana Eatery headed up by celebrated chef Nic Watt and a number of other water based community user groups. 

Duties and responsibilities:

  • Strategic planning for new initiatives and programmes aligned with our core values
  • Liaise with secondary schools and other education partners including Fergs Kayks and Ngati Whatua Orakei to enable students/participants to have pathways to the sea
  • Assist in finding avenues for Academy Sponsorship
  • Facilitate avenues for increased sailor participation and retention
  • Manage key relationships with YNZ, suppliers, yacht clubs
  • Assist in developing funding targets and driving initiatives to help reach these
  • Attend necessary meetings (RAYC/HMSC staff meetings, Committee meetings, other sailing club meetings, etc)
  • Facilitate communication with Club members, Marketing and Promotions team, and other clubs, to support newsletters, printed materials and social media
  • Comply with and adopt Club policies, operating and administrative procedures
  • Administer and maintain audits and other compliance requirements for Academy activities
  • Support operational asset management 
  • Work with the Treasurer and Finance Manager to set and manage the overall budget and profitability of the Academy
  • Support finance oversight and management to ensure budgets are accurate and maintained, whilst costs are minimised
  • Support regattas held at RAYC including dinghy classes and school regattas
  • Work alongside the Head Coach to organise Academy events, including prize giving and club events
  • Oversee, prepare and arrange delivery of the AMSCT’s outreach progamme - New Navigators when required

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Knowledge of the sailing industry is desirable
  • Marketing skills to help promote the Club and its associated activities
  • Efficiency with computer skills
  • Good written and verbal communication skills and able to speak in public
  • Ability to lead others in a collaborative manner
  • Member and customer service focus
  • Results and solutions driven
  • Excellent organisational and time management skills, including attention to detail

Qualifications and Education Requirements

  • Driver’s license 
  • First aid certificate

Preferred Skills

  • Some sailing or racing experience
  • VHF certificate
