Position: 

The Island Adventure Guide is responsible for ensuring all guests are safely transported to their island accommodation while largely contributing to the overall guest experience. The successful candidate will be expected to deliver high quality, educational tour content in a professional and interactive manner fulfilling the service standards and expectations. This role is instrumental in ensuring the  experience is safe, engaging, memorable and as enjoyable as possible, for both staff and guests visiting from Edmonton and beyond.

This position provides the successful candidate with a dynamic, culturally diverse work environment. This position is seasonal, from April 15 through November 15 and offers a fast-paced, active role with opportunities for career growth, future work and personal development. The Island Adventure Guide will reside on the beautiful and iconic urban island location.

Key Accountabilities: 

Supervise and lead activities/trips, ensuring guest satisfaction Provide clear direction and leadership to students, group leaders, guests, staff and volunteers

  • Ensure adequate planning and preparation for all activities and trips
  • Promote different sightseeing trips and/or city tours
  • Report any/all incidents or problems during an activity or excursion to Activities

Manager and/or Centre Manager.

  • Perform residential responsibilities, including but not limited to, meal and bed time supervision, guardian duties, check-in and check-out, linen exchange, etc.
  • Assist Experience Manager in the day-to-day, cooperative efforts of scheduling and communicating with upcoming, current and past guests
  • Receive feedback from guests, volunteers and staff
  • Perform routine administrative duties, including inventory management, guest scheduling, incident reporting, pre/post trip inspections, etc.
  • Participate in weekly leadership meetings
  • Familiarity with river safety and operational policies and procedures
  • Assist with airport greeting/departure responsibilities, when necessary
  • Operate Jetboat, when necessary
  • Assist with recruitment, selection, training and development of volunteers and staff in the areas of job duties, safety procedures and company policies
  • Foster a high level of professionalism when dealing with guests, staff and volunteers while continuously meeting the guest’s expectations the business Adventures standards

Qualifications and Requirements: 

  • Minimum 1 year of previous experience working with or supervising minors
  • Pleasure Craft Operator Card (Boating License)
  • High School Diploma, or GED equivalent
  • Local Tour Guide Certificate
  • Standard First Aid Certificate
  • Lifeguard and/or coaching qualification is considered an asset
  • Knowledge of the local area is considered an asset

  • Ability to supervise more than 20 people and staff in various levels of responsibility
