Kaiako/Tutor - Te Ao Maori 

Fixed Term - Part-time (0.5 FTE equivalent), Fixed term 29th May - 27th August 2021

We have been a staple in the outdoor industry for nearly 20 years, delivering a range of outdoor adventure and education programs to clients in the upper North Island. Additionally, we deliver in the tertiary sector, specifically, the Certificate in Outdoor and Adventure Education (Level 4)(Multi-Skilled), Diploma in Outdoor and Adventure Education (Level 5)(Multi-Skilled) and New Zealand Certificate in Outdoor Leadership (Instruction)(Level 5).

An opportunity has arisen for a Kaiako/Tutor to teach in the Te Ao Maori and environmental sustainability space on a part-time fixed-term basis. The successful candidate will be responsible for the delivery of our Kaitiakitanga in the Outdoors (level 4) course and our Kaitiakitanga and Quality Environmental Practice (level 5) course. The role would include the responsibility for content creation, delivery, assessment and review, as well as being a contributing member to the wider organisation.

Experience/Skills/Qualifications

  • Subject Expertise - Broad understanding of Te Ao Maori and its relationship to the outdoors and outdoor education (with supporting qualification and/or experience.
  • Te Reo Speaker (preferred but not required)
  • Adult Teaching Qualification/Experience (or willing to get a similar qual.)
  • Full Drivers Licence with Passenger endorsement (or ability to get one)
  • Experience using Google Classrooms or familiarity with online learning platforms
  • Passionate about creating a connection for the learner between the outdoor environment and Te Ao Maori.

Teaching hours are on a 2-week rotation of 9 am - 4 pm Mon-Wed one week then 9 am - 4 pm Thursday the following week. Additional hours can be made up anytime by negotiation with the Programme Manager (total of 40 hours over the two-week rotation).
