Position Title: Lead Heli-Ski Guide

Location of Work: Various remote locations in BC (near Revelstoke, BC)

Terms of Employment: Full-time, seasonal

Language of Work: English required, additional languages an asset

Wage: Starting from $379.00 - $440.00 per day, based on certifications and experience

POSITION OVERVIEW

As a Certified Ski Guide, you will be responsible for guiding local and international clients through backcountry ski terrain. You will be responsible for the safety of our clients and must bring significant years’ experience in heli-skiing, mountaineering and risk management. You are able to train and mentor our Apprentice Heli-Ski Guides and Heli-Ski Guides through active, hands on learning with snow science, weather, safety, environmental hazards and group dynamics.

 

Key Working Relationships:

  • This position reports to the Area Manager
  • Works and cooperates closely with the Assistant Area Manager and all members of the guiding team
  • Trains and mentors Apprentice Heli-Ski and Heli-Ski Guides

JOB DUTIES

  • Govern the conduct in the mountains of yourself and all people entrusted to your care in a manner that minimizes risk while maximizing the quality of the experience
  • Familiarize yourself with the terrain by asking question’s during guide meetings and study both winter and summer run photos
  • Be friendly, courteous, and respectful in interacting with your guests. Ensure their safety, comfort, and enjoyment on and off the hill. Be sensitive to individual needs, while respecting personal space
  • Provide coaching, as appropriate
  • Develop interpersonal and language skills to communicate effectively with guests and other guides. Give clear instructions at the appropriate time. Use supplementary skills to entertain where appropriate
  • Come prepared to meetings to participate actively in the joint analysis and determination of all aspects of the skiing program. Exercise your authority, at any time, to veto any decision which, in your judgment, compromises safety
  • Have a thorough working knowledge and competence in all technical systems associated with the operation. Participate in annual training to refresh and upgrade these skills
  • Be thoroughly familiar with all written procedures and guidelines that govern the operation, and act in accordance with them always
  • Maintain, and where possible, upgrade your certifications with the professional associations and agencies relevant to the trade
  • Supply personal gear and mountain equipment as needed. Always carry all required gear. Maintain your equipment as necessary to ensure its proper function. Treat equipment issued to you with due care, and return when requested
  • Be physically well prepared and fit throughout the season. Conserve your own energies and prioritize how they are applied to your work so that you can function optimally given the considerable demands

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE and SKILLS REQUIREMENTS

Education:

  • Canadian ACMG or International IFMGA Ski Guide Certification, or CSGA Level 3 with 5 years of experience
  • Level 2 Ski Instructor or equivalent, preferred
  • CAA Level 2, preferred
  • WCB Avalanche Control Blaster’s Certification, preferred

Experience:

  • At least 7 years of experience as a Heli-Ski Guide
  • At least 3 years of experience as a Lead Heli-Ski Guide
  • Experience with ski programs that involve aircrafts, preferred
