Global, United Kingdom

Salary not listed

Job Description

If you’re a people person that possesses common sense & a sense of adventure in equal measure, are passionate about motorcycles and eager to travel the world, we may want to hear from you. We are expanding & on the lookout for talented individuals to join our team and assist us with our never ending quest to provide the world’s greatest motorcycle adventures.

WHY WORK WITH US?

You’ll travel the world by motorcycle. You’ll work alongside our local teams (these guys are awesome) in some pretty epic locations. You’ll ride with guests from all over the world and from all walks of life. You’ll witness some of the most breathtaking sights on the planet. You’ll be part of an exciting company, working with likeminded people who are committed to delivering motorcycle adventures to the highest of standards. And those are the just some of the reasons…

KEY INFO

CONTRACT TYPE: Freelance. Full-time positions may also be available for those that possess office-based skills… sales, marketing, accounting, admin, legal, making good cups of tea etc.

START DATE: Late 2021 / 2022… (whenever the COVID gods allow travel to resume).

COMMITMENT: You must be available for a minimum of 3 months per year, for periods of at least one month at a time. We require a commitment of at least 3 years.

DESTINATIONS: Global.

BASE: UK. Preferably the southwest. While this is not office based work, your presence in the office will be required from time to time.

MONEY: This will depend on a number of factors, but let us tell you now that a motorcycle tour leader is not a high paying job. If you require £200+ per day, you might be better off applying for a job as a plumber.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Ensure tours are operated inline with our high standards of quality, ethics and sustainability.
  • Care for the business as if it were your own.
  • Exceptional customer service – the guests come first, always.
  • While on tour, you are on-call 24/7. This is not a simple, 9-5 clock in clock off job.
  • Prepare all required equipment and paperwork for the tour.
  • Give pre-trip & daily morning briefings.
  • Management of other team members.
  • Monitor the safety checks of the motorcycles and support vehicles.
  • Revise the risk assessments on every trip and suggest amendments when necessary.
  • Review the accuracy of written itineraries, marketing material and tour manuals on every trip.
  • Maintain the medical kit.
  • Maintain an interest in wilderness medicine, beyond that of obtaining the required qualification.
  • Record all trip expenses.
  • And a few thousand other things.

ESSENTIAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Flexibility. Tour & team scheduling is a big task for us and we rely on the flexibility of our crew.
  • WFR certification (Wilderness First Responder), or the willingness to obtain this at your own expense.
  • Young(ish), physically fit and full of beans. Our tours generally err on the side of adventure and a job on the support team is not an easy one.
  • Keen to get nipple deep in mud, sand and elbow grease.
  • Well travelled, preferably in far flung destinations. Sorry, but if you’ve never strayed outside of Europe, you’re unlikely to be considered. A Miami beach holiday doesn’t count.
  • Bike knowledge and basic mechanics. Besides the obvious reasons, this also makes for good campfire chat.
  • Possess common sense & a sense of adventure in equal measure.
  • Naturally polite, kind and professional.
  • An excellent multitasker. There really is a lot to think about on tour, and remembering the finer details makes a big difference to a guests experience.
  • A real problem solver. Not only do you need to be good at solving issues when they arise, you need to enjoy it.
  • A leader that excels under pressure. When things don’t go as planned, how do you react… Do you panic and get flustered? Do you point the finger at the person responsible? Or do you take control in a calm & positive manner?
  • A real people person. You will be the face of the business while on tour. People must like you (or at the very least, not hate you!).
  • Experience in a relevant role. We’re looking for outdoor leadership, management, customer service, travel…
  • Class A and B license held for a minimum of 3 years.
  • A competent and sensible rider both on and off-road.
  • A real team player.

PREFERRED

  • Experience as a motorcycle tour leader gets first prize here.
  • Bilingual. French or Spanish is ideal. If you also speak Arabic, Hindi or Mongolian, you get a shiny gold star.
  • Extensive travel experience in the destinations in which we operate.
  • Photography / videography.
  • Confidence in front of the lens.
  • Extensive motorcycle / 4×4 mechanics.
  • Class C or C1 license.
  • An experienced horse rider. Err why? Well, the horse loving co-owner of the business, Anna, will soon be launching her new venture starting in Morocco. Besides the general brownie points Anna will give you for being an animal person, you may also be able to assist with her operations as and when required.

THE APPLICATION PROCESS
STAGE 1
It all starts with an email to Toby (he’s the owner and this business is his baby – be nice : ) ). An email full of the good stuff we want to hear. An attached CV with references is of course a must, but we first want to read why you think you’re the perfect fit. What do you ride? Where have you travelled? What is your most relevant experience / quality that makes you a good fit for this role?

We’ll interview the chosen ones over Zoom (well, we use Google Meet, but everyone says Zoom these days).
STAGE 2
We want to get to know you. Character and attitude is an incredibly important part of any role with us, so we’ll have another chat over Zoom.
STAGE 3
Time to get down and dirty. We (and you) will organise a weekend of wild camping in Dartmoor National Park with all candidates. The aim of the weekend is to test your team working, management skills and general attitude towards the outdoors.

Covid permitting, this will take place late June / early July 2021.
STAGE 4
This is where we offer you the position (subject to a trial period). If you do not already have a WFR or equivalent qualification, you must get this now before we send you overseas.
STAGE 5
On the job training (unpaid for the first tour only). Let the adventure begin…
STAGE 6
Welcome to the team!
