Description

In 2023, the inaugural UCI Cycling World Championships (2023 CWC) will bring together 13 World Championships from different cycling disciplines in one unprecedented event for the first time ever, which will see thousands of the world’s best cyclists vying to win the prestigious rainbow jersey. 2023 CWC is set to be the biggest cycling event ever to take place in the world.


Reporting to the Head of Sport Delivery, the Mountain Bike Contract Manager will oversee CWC’s Mountain Bike commitments. This will include: Downhill, Cross Country and Cross-Country Marathon discipline Championships. The manager will be supported by individual Spoke delivery partners and the respective Local Authorities and will be the control and conduit between the individual LOCs, the hub’s central operations and the UCI. There are a range of additional events, which currently sit out with the Long Form Agreement and are subject to confirmation between CWC and the UCI, a key aspect of this role will be to scope, appraise and rationalise the feasibility of these potential additional events.

Qualifications

Mandatory knowledge, skills and experience: *
In order to be considered, you will need to demonstrate the following:
Experience

  • Track record of success in a mid-level role and managing external contracts of £500k +
  • Extensive experience of fulfilling a senior role in a multi-venue major sports event and having a full understanding of the operational complexity of major events.
  • Experience of Mountain Bike event delivery.
  • Experience of working with a LOC structure and managing end to end high value contracts.
  • Experience of budget setting, financial management and performance reporting at a mid-level management role having effectively managed budgets of at least £500k/year.
  • Experience of working with Local and National Government, International and National Sport Federations.
  • Experience of project management, project management tools and software.

Knowledge

  • An understanding of the Scottish Public Sector systems, in particular Public Sector procurement
  • A knowledge of sport regulation across cycling disciplines and ideally knowledge of Mountain Bike Olympic, Cross Country and Cross-Country Marathon disciplines.
  • An understanding of the geography of Scotland and the various Local Authorities
  • Ability to take an overarching view of a programme and coordinate across internal and external parties, aligning operational requirements to the needs of the event delivery.
  • Understanding of setting, monitoring and reviewing targets and KPI’s
  • An understanding of UK, and ideally Scottish, health and safety requirements and legislation and working within a multi-agency environment

Skills

  • Ability to build strong external relationships and inspire effective collaborations
  • Demonstrated and strong contract management and negotiation skills.
  • Ability to translate outline project timelines to operational sport and venue delivery plans.
  • Ability to make clear and effective operational decisions under pressure
  • Ability to demonstrate attention to detail and to be innovative and creative in problem solving.
  • Excellent IT skills, presentation skills, report writing skills and optional design skills.
  • Ability to make key operational decisions in-line with delegated authority.
  • A proven ability to communicate and work in partnership with multiple internal and external partners and stakeholders at all levels.
