Position Overview

Leads the Sea Base STEM program and is responsible for the entirety of the Sea Base STEM and coral restoration programs. Creates and implements STEM curriculum, interacts with government agencies that oversee coral growing and planting and leads seasonal staff in coral restoration and related work activities.

Responsibilities

Manages, administers, and operates the Sea Base STEM program to include but not limited to: manages the coral nursery; operates water vessels (i.e. boats ); develops STEM curriculum; coordinates with National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) and other agencies for outplanting of coral; and assists in hiring STEM staff to ensure the success of the Sea Base STEM program. Participates in leadership team meetings. Promotes Sea Base STEM programs to outside groups including schools, universities, and partners with other coral restoration programs in the Keys for collaborative use of Sea Base facilities. Identifies funding opportunities to support the operation of the STEM program and coral nursery. Writes, submits and follows up with proposals to raise the budgeted amount of funds. Supports BSA council STEM programs. Shares information, provides video or live conference video of STEM programs and/or coral restoration.

Education

Bachelors degree from an accredited college or university required

Qualifications

A Bachelors of Science Degree and at least 3-5 years of the required experience must include work in Marine Biology field with preferred experience in coral restoration (i.e. coral nursery, fragmenting, growing, outplanting).

  • Must have knowledge of coral fragmentation and planting methods.

  • Must have knowledge of Biology, Oceanography, and scientific knowledge of coral.

Licenses

Must have or be able to obtain a US Coast Guard Captain’s License (OUPV)

PADI Scuba Diving Certification of similar certification
