About the role

We are building our team of instructors/educators to work with us through the upcoming 2021/2022 season. Whether you are just beginning your outdoors journey, or you are a seasoned outdoor educator, our broad range in programs means there will be something for you.

As part of this new team you will have the opportunity to guide and develop our participants and influence their learning through the outdoors. We are looking for anyone who has a passion for people and the outdoors, is motivated about personal development of themselves and others and shares our vision of using the outdoors as a tool to strengthen.

Because of the large nature of our scope, our instructors are required to perform many different tasks including instructing multiple activities with a wide age range of participants, hosting groups, site readiness tasks such as cleaning, gear management and safety checks, performing day and night duties as necessary, and a host of other responsibilities that help keep the business running smoothly.

Instructors are also required to work across multiple sites (we have bases in Wellington and Tongariro) for the duration of the season, however, we do try and have a home base for instructors that live locally to one of those locations.

Future team members must have:

  • A mature focus on leading and developing others
  • An ability to work independently with little or no supervision, and are well-organized, open minded and flexible
  • An awareness of the customer-oriented nature of outdoor education work and to be able communicate effectively with a wide range of people with a range of backgrounds and maintain a professional manner at all

times

  • A passion for the outdoors and the development of young people


You will ideally have:

  • Relevant tertiary qualification in outdoor recreation and/or outdoor education
  • NZOIA award/s (or equivalent)A clean full driver’s licence
  • Experience working with young peopleA First Aid qualification (PHEC preferred)
  • However full on the job training is provided.

About the position
The position described above is a fixed term seasonal position starting on the 30th of August. Staff training is held from the 30th of August to the 4th of September and it is vital that all new instructors be available and attend this training.
