POSITION SUMMARY We are seeking an energetic and creative individual to join our team of outdoor recreation and environmental education professionals. The successful candidate will develop and implement a diversity of hands-on outdoor education and recreation programs for all ages. The successful candidate must be able to plan, organize and execute a variety of outdoor nature-based recreation activities including but not limited to hiking, paddle sports, outdoor skills, and team building, in addition to environmental education programming for the public, school and homeschool groups. The position works with a wide variety of audiences, including children and adults from diverse backgrounds, and will be involved in summer day camp, offsite and overnight trips, and afterschool programs. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS Experience: No experience required. Education: Bachelor's degree in Park and Recreation Administration, Health and Physical Education, or Natural Resources/Environmental related field. Equivalent Experience for Education Accepted? Yes Computer Skills: Basic computer knowledge. Licenses and Certifications: Position may require a valid North Carolina or South Carolina’s driver’s license and the ability to obtain and maintain a County Operators Permit. Knowledge of: Educational programming and instruction Instruction in area of specialist. Skilled in: Applying classroom knowledge through hands-on activities Developing and enforcing classroom rules and safety procedure Managing multiple tasks concurrently Organizing and presenting demonstrations in area of specialization. Job Specific Information This is an Outdoor Recreation Specialist position. This position is required to work most weekends, some evenings and holidays, and rotating shifts dependent on business need and customer demand; requires work in the outdoors in all weather conditions, often for extended periods of time. Will be exposed to biting insects and be in and around water on a regular basis. Must be able to pull, push, reach, crawl, stoop, and hike several miles at a time for programming and equipment maintenance. Relevant professional certifications are a plus.
