Team Leader (Fixed-term) x 2

35 hour
per week contract

Right now the waves aren’t rolling but the team are working hard to make sure that we are ready to get up and riding for our 2021 season. In order to do this
we will need to expand our team.

We are looking for 2 x Surf Operations Team Leaders to join us on fixed-term contracts during our forthcoming season.

These new roles within the organisation will assist in the running of a successful & growing business by delivering a fantastic customer experience. It will be a busy job and the successful candidates will be making sure our lake operations run smoothly and that we are always operating in a safe, secure and legal way.

 

This role supports our Surf Operations and Surf Experience Managers and will need operate as a role model to our large surf operations team (in the region of 70 people at our peak) which consists of Surf Coaches, Lifeguards and Surf Operations Assistants.

 

It is essential that the successful applicants have experience of operating in a high volume environment and leading a large team on shift. At our peak we will be
hosting up to 800 people per day with our lake operating 14 hours per day. In order to execute this our team needs to be well trained, fully up for the challenge of our busy days and dedicated to ensuring our visitors have the very best day.

 

What you’ll be up to:

  • Planning and leading the shift so that everyone if performing at their best throughout the day.
  • Making sure all sessions/lessons run on time and everyone is where they are supposed to be.
  • Maintaining high levels of housekeeping within the department. Ensuring the surf ops area and shoreline are always looking their best.
  • Championing and role modelling the highest levels of service to the team.
  • Work with the department managers to create, delegate and complete daily task lists
  • Ensuring the completion of open and closedown checklists each day.
  • Contributing to a culture of amazing service through great teamwork and communication between all areas of the Surf Ops function.
  • Assisting in the induction & training of new starters.
  • Be the liaison between coaches, lifeguards and surf ops to ensure a one team approach.
  • Ensure all team members follow The Wave’s health and safety policies.
  • Understand the company  standard and normal operating procedures inside out. Directing and answering procedural queries confidently.
  • Assisting in the completion of departmental tasks such as stock management and stock takes, daily time and attendance administration.
  • Support senior management decisions and assist in the roll out of new initiatives and products.
  • Carrying out duty management shifts.

 

Skills and Attributes:

  • Leading a large team (upwards of 20 per shift)
  •  A strong desire to get people active and to engage with surfing.
  • An ability to work under pressure, managing changing circumstances calmly, using your initiative to solve issues yourself.
  • Must be able to work autonomously – grab the day and get going.
  • A drive and determination to achieve the best – a can do attitude.
  • Great people skills, with an ability to motivate and inspire team members and customers.
  • Excellent organisational and time-management skills.
  • Strong attention to detail, especially with regards to Health and Safety, with an ability to spot trends and errors
  • A proactive and ambitious mindset, with a desire to ‘muck-in’!

& the other bits:

  • Will need to obtain and keep a clean DBS check as part of safeguarding requirements.
  • You will ideally be first aid trained (3 day course)
  • You will be able to work a variety of shifts to reflect the lake operating hours (05:30-21:00)
  •  This is a fixed-term role which we hope to run from March (probably mid-March) until October.
