About the business

We are an operating division of the Mount Isa City Council Owned Enterprises PTY LTD (MICCOE). It incorporates the regions premier tourist attractions, the Hard Times Mine, Riversleigh Fossil Centre, Isa Experience, Outback Park, the Regional Art Gallery and the accredited Visitor Information Centre, the Outback Café and a Retail Store.

Operating seven days week, except for key public holidays, we are  a tourism hub, providing tourism information to visitors who are passing through the region, tour bookings services for our own and other local tours and attractions, a place to relax in air conditioned comfort, refresh, and connect with the world via free wifi services. Locally made souvenirs and great meals are also available here. It's a very diverse and dynamic business focussed on catering to tourists needs.

 

About the role

We are seeking a suitably experienced Tour Guide, who is interested in sharing their passion and local knowledge of Mount Isa with visitors to the MICCOE facilities whilst exploring the Riversleigh and Hard Time Mine.  Bringing your own fascinating stories and sharing of history to entertain visitors in an interactive environment.

The perfect person for this role will have a passion for engaging with groups, providing exceptional customer service skills, knowledge of the Mount Isa region, and be an outgoing individual with the ability to create positive relationships and customer experience with visitors from a variety of backgrounds.

 

Skills and experience

Key responsibilities include, but are not be limited to:

  1. Meet and greet visitors to the facility with excellent customer service.

  2. Pre-tour planning and preparation.

  3. Educate visitors with thorough knowledge and passionate delivery of guided activities of Riversleigh and the Hard Time Mine.

  4. Ensure that safety procedures are adhered to in all guided activities.

To be successful for this role you will need to:

  • Have experience of tour guiding, tourism and hospitality or working with groups of people would be preferred.

  • Be available to work when rostered tours are scheduled.

  • Be confident with Public Speaking in small groups.

  • Have a reasonable level of fitness.

  • Ability to develop a working knowledge of current OHS requirements and ability to enforce COVID requirements.

  • Good communication skills.
