Ski / Snowboard : Africa

There are no typical ski resorts in Africa due to the continent's warm climate and lack of suitable terrain. In Morocco, North Africa, the Atlas Mountains are seeing a boom in ski tourism. In  South Africa, the Tiffindell Ski Resort is a year round alpine resort with artificial snow and a 590 ft vertical. 

 

However, there are a few places where you can go sandboarding, which is similar to snowboarding but on sand dunes. Here are some of the best places for sandboarding in Africa:

 

1. Swakopmund, Namibia: Located in the Namib Desert, Swakopmund offers some of the best sandboarding opportunities in Africa.

 

2. Port Elizabeth, South Africa: The dunes at Maitland Beach are perfect for sandboarding, and there are several tour operators in the area who offer sandboarding packages.

 

3. Merzouga, Morocco: The dunes of Erg Chebbi near Merzouga are some of the tallest in Africa and provide a unique sandboarding experience.

 

4. Sossusvlei, Namibia: The towering red sand dunes of Sossusvlei provide a stunning backdrop for sandboarding adventures.

 

5. Cairo, Egypt: While not technically a sandboarding destination, the Great Pyramids of Giza offer a unique sandboarding experience for those looking for a different kind of adventure.
