ABOUT ME

My name is Juan Pablo de la Maza, originally from Chile and currently living in Australia. With a Natural Resources Management professional background, outdoor activities have been both a professional need and a passion, from sport focused to research campaings and educational instances.
Focused on preventing risks and getting the most out of each outing, promoting respectful living with ecosystems, exchange of worldviews and teaching technical aspects of outdoor activity, always with an education focus and enjoy the activity in a happy and friendly way.
Although it is always a challenge to get out of comfort, I believe that being in nature should not be a sacrifice and that we can create comfort and enjoyment through proper planning and the right equipment.

EXPERIENCE

As a Natural Resources Management professional my outdoor experience has been linked to field work, many times camping in remote sites to carry out ecological assessment, data collection and education activities, implying knowledge of botany, zoology, geography and sociology.
Outside the professional field, my outdoor experience is related to planning outings from one to several days, mostly in mountainous areas of Chile, from low to high intensity and multi-day mid-mountain treks to a maximum altitude of 3250masl.
I have had the opportunity to plan and participate in outings under different climates and environments: desert, temperate rain forest and mountains.

Specific works with a strong outdoor component have been the following:
-Several fieldwork instances during university studies, as student and as teaching assistant.
-Conservation status assessment and data collection of the “Quebrada de Macul” andean mountain valley, Santiago, Chile.
-Development of a geographic information system and data collection at remote Leones Valley, Aysen region, Chile.
-Flora and fauna conservation specialist through planning, rescue, relocation and monitoring activities in rainforest and desert environments, Chile.
