How your role makes a difference

Reporting to the Club President you will play a major role in ensuring that the Surf Life Saving Club continues to offer a first class service to all stakeholders including its members, sponsors, and the local community as well as businesses who use the function area. You will also operate as a key interface with the various Surf Life Saving bodies, Waverley Council and State Government.n Overview

Role Responsibilities

Oversee the office and administration of the Club.

Set budgets and oversee the financial operation of the Club.

Oversee the functions business and upkeep of club facilities.

Supervise the Functions Manager and Caretaker.

Give effect to the Board’s strategic directions.

Provide a first instance business level interface with stakeholders & members.

Manage/ensure delivery of major projects.

Assume responsibility for key compliance requirements such as the liquor licence, insurances, financial audit, SLS compliance and any ad hoc administrative and legal matters that may arise.

The President 
The Finance Director & other members of the Board 

The full time, part time staff and contractors (including the external accounts person)
Various Club Committees and section heads

Salary level

A Salary commensurate with the responsibility and seniority but noting the ‘not for profit’ nature of the Surf Club – minimum $100,000 pa plus Super. will be offered.

Ours is one of the oldest surf clubs in Australia and has a long and proud history dating back over 100 years. The club has over 2,000 members from a diverse range of backgrounds and levels of involvement in the Club.

The GM should be able to work with the Board and the staff at the club ensuring that the tasks required are completed on time and to the appropriate level of quality. At the same time the GM needs to ensure that the Club’s key outcomes, goals and strategic direction is achieved.

• Be able to deal with different people from varied backgrounds
• Be able to demonstrate that you are able to manage a team of people
• Be able to communicate effectively

• Manage a number of stakeholders’ expectations
• Be numerate and have an eye for detail
• A high level of intuition, common sense and curiosity
• Be technology oriented & have an advanced understanding of excel & word
• Have a very good understanding of systems & processes & be able to identify improvements to be made
• Be self-sufficient and be able to problem solve

Experience and skills we would prefer you have

• Have managed successful and harmonious teams
• Be able to ensure accountability and ownership
• Familiarity with SLS processes
• Be skilled in having run your own business or having that ‘entrepreneurial spirit’ /sense of ownership - be able to treat the Club as your own
