Position Overview

We are currently accepting applications for summer Park Ranger positions

Duties include providing information and direction to park users about park facilities, trails, natural history and park ecology. You will inspect park facilities and report damage, monitor park usage to prevent overcrowding, inform users of park regulations, patrol park areas to prevent and/or stop inappropriate behaviour, and contact appropriate authorities when necessary. The work involves considerable public relations contact and requires that you have exceptional customer service skills in order to respond and problem solve with tact and diplomacy. You will exercise independent judgement and perform the duties within policy and regulation limits. You will also prepare and maintain a variety of records and reports as required.

The ideal candidate will have considerable knowledge of wharf, dog control, parks and environmental bylaw. You will also have sound knowledge of court procedures and legality of various types of evidence; the ability to investigate complaints and enforce bylaws and regulations with tact, impartiality, firmness and use of sound judgement.

The successful candidate will have completed the 12th grade and have sound experience in enforcement work. Preferably you will have completed Bylaw Investigative Courses Level 1 and 2 from the Justice Institute of BC. You must hold a valid BC Driver’s Licence, a minimum Level 1 first aid certificate, and be able to swim, walk long distances and work under varying weather conditions. Experience with or knowledge of natural resource management, regulatory enforcement, conflict resolution, and/or wilderness rescue would be considered an asset. Further, you must be eligible to obtain RCMP security clearance.

The salary for these auxiliary positions is $29.40 per hour, plus 12% in lieu of all benefits. Hours of work for these positions may be any day of the week and may vary between the hours of 7:00am and 10:00pm. It is anticipated that these positions will start in early to mid May.
