Summary
We are looking for an ecologist, interested in working in aquatic ecology and fisheries, who would be happy to work in a small team. The job requires a flexible approach to work both in the office and laboratory and when working in the field. Pisces collects and maintains internationally important large data sets and the successful candidate would be expected have an interest in helping to collect, maintain and analyse these data. This would initially be a 1 year contract, with the option to move onto a permeant basis thereafter.

 

We specialise in the impacts of large industry on aquatic ecology. Founded in 1992 we have worked on many of the largest projects in the UK such as nuclear new build, Thames Gateway and Thames super sewer. We are a small team which work closely together. We are unusual company, also producing software and publishing books on aquatic ecology. We possess extensive datasets; our longest continuous time series of regular sampling extends for nearly 40 years of monthly data. We use these data to regularly producing scientific publications.

Your responsibilities would include undertaking field work, data entry and analysis and report writing. In addition, depending on experience, you could run projects, get involved in publications or software development. It is essential that you have a driving licence, would pass security vetting to work on secure sites and are flexible. In a small team such as ours, self-motivation is important.

 

We are based in Pennington, close to Lymington in Hampshire. We are about 40 minutes from Southampton and Bournemouth.
This position is ideal for a graduate scientist interested in the aquatic ecology of the UK. The position offers the opportunity to work with and publish on one of the most important long-term datasets in the UK.
