A little bit about the Island

It is a true coral cay, surrounded by crystal clear waters and acres of brilliant coral.  Accommodating up to nearly 280 guests, located right on the Great Barrier Reef with a near-perfect climate, ours is an extraordinary place to live and work all year round. There is a marine centre, activities centre, boutique, award-winning day spa, spacious lounge and bar overlooking the pool plus the expansive Shearwater Restaurant. Marine activities for guests and staff include world-class diving, snorkelling, kayaking and cruises.

Main Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Manage a team of 10 staff to provide an outstanding experience for Heron Island guests.
  • Organise, advertise and manage dive experiences, courses, and trips, as well as identifying additional opportunities that will add value to the business.
  • Manage the day-to-day operations and logistics including Staff rostering, bookings, scheduling, inventory, purchasing, suppliers, rental bookings, and accounting.
  • Provide training for new staff when required.
  • Maintain Quality Management of all aspects of the dive/snorkel operation.
  • Ensure the Dive Centre is always clean and presentable as a professional operation.
  • Coordinating boating schedules to support activities on Heron Island and transfers to Wilson Island.

Additional Skills Required:

  • Renewed and Insured PADI Instructor.
  • 5 years’ experience within the Recreation Diving Industry, Dive store retail experience preferred.
  • Knowledgeable of boating operations and regulations preferred.
  • Experience in developing and marketing a dive business would be highly desirable.
  • Ability to analysis and generate business reports and with a strong working knowledge of building budgets and man powering guides is essential.
  • Demonstrated ability to coach and mentor internal stakeholders.
  • Exceptional interpersonal communication skills due to a variety of nationalities from both a customer and staff focus.
  • Demonstrated organisational skills, in a multi-faceted business will be looked upon favourably.
  • Previous remote working experience preferred.
  • Strong working knowledge of MS Office is essential.
