About the business and the role

We are located in Coonabarabran and conducts observing nights for tourists and school groups.

We have a casual(s) position at to conduct the Night Sky & Telescope Viewing shows each clear evening.

Job tasks and responsibilities:

Set up the Night Sky Show and telescopes.

Conduct an astronomy presentation under the stars.

Point out planets, stars and constellations in the night sky to tourists.

Move telescopes to different objects in the sky for tourists to view and explain and answer questions.

Take photos with the customers SLR camera through the main telescope.

Pack up the show and set up night observing run.

Basic maintenance on observatories on site occasionally.

Work on clear sky nights where required. Minimum 3 hours per night. Availability is essential in school holiday periods and long weekends.

Skills and experience

Sound knowledge of the night sky, constellations, stars, planets, daily and yearly cycles. Some knowledge of the objects.

Tour Guide experience preferred

Ability to confidently present, talk, and answer questions to a small crowd of tourists.

Ability to set up and use an amateur telescope to show people the stars, planets, etc through a telescope

Basic computer skills

Ability to work on your own.

Excellent personal skills with customers.

Reliable, Punctual, self starter
