Mountain Biking : HOW TO GET STARTED

If you dream of working in the outdoors, riding a bike for a living and inspiring people to lead a healthy and adventurous life, a Level 1 Mountain Bike Leader Course is the perfect first step. The qualification offers clear progression and further development, with accessible employment opportunities in the outdoor sector. First Aid/CPR is Fundamental. Always have this qualification up to date and maintained with refresher courses. Check the validity for each region you want to work in. Most employers will require a police check or certificate to clear your working with minors relevant to the country of employment.

Mountain Bike Leader awards are beneficial and a recognised qualification for leading mountain bike groups.  Cycle maintenance courses will certify you to maintain a bike and are key to mountain biking, especially when you are riding in remote areas. Emergency Services Cycle Patrol or Mountain Medicine awards are a recognised qualification for emergency services. To begin entry level employment you can often begin with a Leader award. Pay will be commensurate with experience and certifications

Most countries have a national awarding organisation for award and certification coursers and employers will often accept these around the world. If you want to work with particular employer or in a particular location, it’s a good idea check with them before beginning your certifications. Some places may accept people with first aid and provide their own training.
