Windsurf : HOW TO GET STARTED

Technically, a windsurf board is considered a small personal sailing vehicle. In most countries, check in with the regions Yacht Association and you will probably find hundreds of places you can learn, and go on to be a skilled instructor. You’ll start off with a larger board and a small sail and then progress. Basic skills can be learned in just a few hours and then you can build on those skills.

To be an instructor in most places, you will need to become accredited from a reputable company or club, complete an intermediate course and then a trainers course. Up to date and Advanced First Aid will always be a requirement.

There is no final level of this sport. As a windsurfer you can always progress and advance in certification and experience. Many people go on to run their own business. It’s important to be realistic about the pay. Having a passion for the sport is fundamental.
